Five Senses: January Favourites

Saturday, 4 February 2017
Greetings my lovely readers, so January is finally over which means its time to review the things I have been loving this month! Let's get straight into it.

Sight
"The OA"

After hearing that Brit Marling was to star in this new Netflix original release, I knew I had to watch this one. As with many of Marling's projects, she co-created, co-wrote and starred in the series, which is hugely inspirational to gals like me who dream of doing the same with their own projects.  If you know Marling's work, you'll know it often contemplates unusual and mysterious ideas, The OA is no different, exploring Near Death Experiences had by a blind woman (played by Marling) who mysteriously disappeared. 8 episodes devoured in less than 48 hours? Check.

Sound
"Dash Away" by Harry Gregson-Williams

Almost a year later and I'm still addicted to film score music. Over the Christmas period I discovered "Arthur Christmas", a fun family-friendly tale about Santa Claus' son. This track from the film provides the perfect ambience to a pivotal scene as Arthur takes his first ride in the classic Santa sleigh.

"Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran

If you're not familiar with this one, I'll be shocked. Ed's surprise comeback brought about pure excitement as for me (and a lot of others I'm sure), I have always enjoyed every track on his previous albums and his latest singles did not disappoint. An instant ear-worm full of Ed's catchy and relatable lyrics, all about Suffolk!

Smell
L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Pre-Shampoo Masque

Bit of an odd one for smell I know, such is the beauty of a 5 senses post, but I have been using this hair masque for the last 6 weeks and not only is it incredible but I absolutely love the smell of it. Its almost seaweed in smell and very fresh. It claims to purify roots and hydrate ends for 72 hours and honestly, I have really noticed a difference in my hair since using this, my hair is soft yet the roots are much less greasy, I have noticed I can push my hair wash day's back a day or two when I use this which is a huge breakthrough for my oily roots.

Touch
Pumpkin Enzyme Mask by Peter Thomas Roth

This was an amazing gift from my bestie for my birthday in November, and I have wondered why my skin has improved miraculously in the last two months, in terms of a reduction of spots, blackheads, pores, while the overall texture and glow has vastly improved. It has to be because of this product!  I apply this moments before jumping in the shower, give my face a little massage with the tiny exfoliant crystals, they are so small that it doesn't feel particularly brash against my skin, but it does cause the skin to tingle as it works its magic. Then I wash off in the shower after a few minutes. I have read reviews that as this mask is a resurfacer it can be a bit intense for sensitive skin, so do bare that in mind!

Taste
Thornton's Chocolate Smothered Fabulous Fudge

Around Christmas time I rediscovered the joy of boxes / tubs of small chunks of chocolate. I may be in the minority but I actually find that if I'm trying to control how much of a 'naughty' thing I'm eating, I prefer to have a larger pack and eat them in smaller amounts. Thornton's boxes of fudge enable me to do just this, hence why I've been able to keep this box going since Christmas. One or two squares a day when I fancy, plus the fudge and chocolate is so luxurious that I don't crave anymore. I got my kick, I'm all good. Also the majority of Thornton's products are gluten free, yay!
