Favourites Edit: August 2017

Hello lovely readers, I hope you're all well.
Somehow its already August favourites time! I don't know about you but this month has absolutely flown by, I've actually struggled to get bits together this month as I feel like I've barely had 5 minutes to try new things! Fear not though, once I actually switched on my brain I gathered this little collection of things I've been loving.

B E A U T Y,  S T Y L E  &  S K I N C A R E

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder -  As a firm lover of the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, I'd toyed with the idea of trying the Secret Brightening formula, as the only thing I really use powder for is setting the under eye area. My under eye's are a serious force to be reckoned with: they're incredibly dark and dry, so finding the right products that are heavy enough to cover, without looking cakey is quite the task. This powder is stunning, it's very finely milled, so feels luxuriously smooth and undetectable on the skin. It helps to seal my make up in place all day and truly does help bounce out the light to brighten the area.

Blistex Lip Brilliance in Blushing -  Remember when I was a bit obsessed with Lipstick Queen's Medieval? Sadly, I've since then found that the formula seems to react with my skin and actually dry my lips out, which is crazy as when it's applied, it feels incredibly soft and moisturising. This lip balm by Blistex in Blushing is a brilliant dupe, at just a fraction of the price! It tints the lips with a beautiful cherry red stain and leaves them feeling soft and plump!

Dorothy Perkins Knee Length Shorts -  I have to admit, I caved in to my July wishlist and purchased the denim shorts from Dorothy Perkins, but at sale price of just £15! They're so comfortable for chilling at home during the warmer weather, or when out and about. The front pockets make them super practical - we all know I love a good pocket - plus the knee length keeps everything a bit more modest and my legs slightly warmer as Autumn now approaches.

Taylor Swift // 1989 -  So Taylor Swift made her big come back last week, but in all the drama surrounding the lead up to her new single, I reminded myself of just how much I love her music,  and how excited I was for something new. Her last album, 1989, is such an easy listen for me, as I just love every track! Her progression in her albums always felt so natural, advancing as she did. She is always in command of her music and how she wants to sound, and I think she has incredible natural talent and good sense - something which has always attracted me to her music. That, and the fact that it's all so damn relatable and brilliantly written.

Marvel's Iron Fist -  This has been on my Netflix watchlist for a long time. After finishing Gilmore Girls last month, I perused a few of my old favourite shows before finally giving in to try something new. Two episodes in and I was completely hooked! I certainly wasn't expecting the martial arts aspect of this series, but it was all incredibly cool to watch. Though the story is very dark and graphic at times, much like "Jessica Jones", I bloomin' loved it!

Your Name (Kimi No Na Wa) -  So my best pal is a big fan of Japanese anime, and while I've enjoyed all the films she's made me watch in this style (Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke) this is one of my favourites. Our local cinema was showing this film with English subtitles so we decided to go see it. While the visuals are truly stunning, the story was also very moving but quite unusual and imaginative. The film tells the story of two young people tied by fate, time and love, and it goes much further than just a typical love story, whilst being surprisingly funny! The music is also very charming and fits perfectly with the visuals. This might be a bit unusual for mainstream audiences, but give the trailer a watch and see what you think - and don't let the subtitles put you off, you get used to it!
