An Ordinary Round Up

Cheap, cheerful and effective. What more could you ask for?

When it comes to The Ordinary, you can rarely go wrong. No fancy packaging with made up fantasy/sci-fi words to convince you of your purchase, no nasty ingredients and no heavy price tag. Just simple and effective products. If you haven't heard of The Ordinary then, where have you been?? Side note – most of the products featured in this post are cult within the brand; you've probably heard of them before as the ones that keep cropping up on youtube and beauty blogs with rave reviews for tackling acne and dehydration (my swan song, basically). If you still need convincing, let me tell you why I've joined the list of happy customers.

All four of these little gems have transformed my skin since their gradual introduction in my skincare routine from May 2018, and each item costs incredibly less than £10. Yep. While the lack of marketing jargon on the packaging may seem a little daunting, without all the usual spiel of the magical qualities the product possesses, it does mean you need to do a bit of research before purchasing to select the right products for you. But with that research means better targeted results, and as someone who won't buy without researching, it suits me all the better. So, let's crack on.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5.  Need a little extra injection of moisture in your skin? For a quick quench, hyaluronic acid is the one. If you know your skincare then you probably already know the beneficial effects of hyaluronic acid in feeding your dehydrated skin. Plus, this product is great if you can't hack any residue or tacky texture on your skin after application. The clear, gel-like formula absorbs super quickly and my skin simply feels plumped up and ready to go.

100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.  Bit of a mouthful, but boy oh boy does this oil work miracles. Don't panic, you're not about to slather grease on your face. This oil is incredibly moisturising and healing, whilst absorbing quickly into the skin. I do notice a little more of a residue on the skin after patting the product in, but nothing too offensive – just a bit of a glow. Known for reducing acne / blemishes, controlling sebum production and aiding the healing of scars, this product is definitely my favourite in my routine. The dark bottle disguises the bright gold liquid, with a very running consistency. Patted in twice a day, my skin has returned to its old self; incredibly smooth, soft and glowing, without excess oil production, while the nasty scars from old breakouts are finally disappearing.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.  This is the puppy you need to treat pesky blemishes/acne and congestion. Up until about a month ago, my face had turned into a plethora of painful cystic spots – see the graveyard of scars left behind on my forehead for the Rose Hip Seed Oil to tackle. With consistent application, they're finally at bay, as this helps balance the production of sebum and reduces the appearance of blemishes. Again, a clear and gel-like consistency, but this is a little dryer than the Hyaluronic Acid, leaving no residue on the skin at all.  Go easy on this if you have dry/combination skin as it can over-dry areas if you apply too much. That said, every time a visitor occupieds my face, I whip this stuff out, applying only in targeted areas to send them back to the depths of hell where they belong. Mate, it werks.

Salicylic Acid 2% Solution.  This stuff is like targeted blemish killer. Going down the dry out route, Salicylic Acid dries the blemish down to reduce the swelling and redness. You don't need a lot of this, with  it's targeted application it helps with all the above, and aids the healing process when paired with the aforementioned products.
