Three Days Until Rain
WON "BEST PROSE" AT DMU CREATIVE WRITING VARSITY 2019
"In a gated utopia, an unexpected visitor unearths a dreaded secret."
This was one of the first film scripts I wrote on my degree, for the Writing Place module in second year. Our task was to create a piece based on a real location. We were committed to sensory observation tasks and questions to evoke a world to ground and authenticate our stories.
My place of choice was New Walk in Leicester. It's the oldest street in the city centre, and stretches down a long Victorian promenade, away from the busy roads. Walking up and down is like walking back in time – quiet, secluded and surrounded by historical buildings and architecture. Along the walk are a multitude of buildings, from Elizabethan houses, a museum, coffee shops and a church. It felt like a village community all in one street. It was this feeling that inspired Three Days Until Rain; a secluded utopia where the infiltration of an outsider leads to the discovery of more murky secrets.
I hope you enjoy.
